Up, up and away - part II
Hi Beavers
We started the Air Activities stage 1 badge just before we had to stop meeting. We were going to have a visit from our very own pilot friend, Captain Higgles. Instead, he made us a video! Have a watch and tell us what you think.
Make sure you keep safe on the internet and check with your parents that it's OK to watch this YouTube video. Parents: we had this video made for us by our friend Karl - he really is a pilot and made the video far more creatively than we asked! Thanks Karl. 🙂
We're not trying to overload you, so if you've got plenty of school work to get on with, that's the priority. These activities are here if you want to do them. Have fun and enjoy earning another badge.
Make a model bi-plane (like Capt. Higgles’ bi-plane) using lolly sticks or any other construction material you have available. Take a photograph and upload it using the form at the bottom of the page.
Identify the airlines logos below. Print it off, write your answers and either photo/scan to upload using the ‘Share’ form at the bottom of the page or keep the sheet safe to bring back to Beavers.

Learn to spell your name out loud using the phonetic alphabet.
You could film yourself and upload using the ‘Share’ form at the bottom of the page. Check with your parents before you do this! You could also tell your parents/carers and they can jot a note on the ‘Share’ form to let us know you’ve done it.

Make your own paper plane/dart. How far can it fly? Can you change it slightly to make it fly further? The paper plane flight record is 69.14 metres!
Film it, photo it, share it! Remember to ask your parents first.
Complete the task on the accompanying sheet by finding out all you can about your chosen aircraft.
Dear Beavers
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to research one of the following aircraft:
- Spitfire
- Harrier Jump Jet
- Airbus A380
- CH-47 Chinook
- Tornado
Please find out as much as you can about your chosen aircraft – what it looks like, what it carries, what it is used for, any special features and as many other interesting facts as possible. Please present your findings in a project format (such as a booklet). You could also present your project just through pictures/drawings and then when we meet you can talk about what you have found out. If you have a Purple Mash account from school, why not use that and then share your work with us?
